Classic Albums : Live at Fillmore

Marley was the perfect appetizer for the main course – a blistering, made-with-love recreation of the classic Allman Brothers Band album, “The Allman Brothers at Fillmore East”. Featuring Brian Wilkie and Steve Doyle on guitars (longtime band mates in the trad-country outfit The Hoyle Brothers), we already had two crucial elements in place. However, when joined by several other Chicago legends – Larry Beers and Rick Vitek on drums, Chris Neville on organ and vocals, and Jon Paul on bass – we had the makings of a truly great performance. From the opening slide riff of “Statesboro Blues” to the chilling final moments of “Whipping Post”, the band took nothing for granted as they faithfully and fully channeled the ghosts of southern rock past. For dessert, the band (also featuring Colby Beserra on vocals) played 3 tracks also recorded at Fillmore but not released until decades later – “Midnight Rider”, “Don’t Keep Me Wonderin” and “One Way Out”. It was, simply, glorious classic rock at it’s finest.
